FastLax Sixes: League Rules
GENERAL RULES:
• Any fighting, actions with intent to injure another person, or flagrant disrespect towards an official or Fastlax staff member will result in expulsion for the remainder of the game at minimum. There will be no refunds for players expelled, no exceptions.
• Referees are in charge of each individual field during gameplay, and may use their discretion to make appropriate calls. They have final say.
• Parents are expected to respect the official’s calls on the field and are NOT to be engaged by any parent. Tournament HQ may expel a parent from the event based on this. Please honor the game!
GAME PLAY:
• Games consist of four 10-minute quarters. 2 minute stoppage between quarters except halftime, which is 3 minutes.
• No timeouts allowed.
• Games will start and end via a central clock from League HQ.
• Games will be scored via a central scoring table at each field.
• Tie games at the final whistle of regulation will be settled by sudden victory. A faceoff will begin the OT period, which will be played in the same format as regulation play until the first team scores.
• Faceoffs start each half. On a faceoff, all non-faceoff players must be 5-yards away from the face-off, and may not approach the face-off until possession is awarded or until the ball is within their reach.
• Mercy rule: If a team is winning by 8 goals or more, the losing team gets a free clear to the midfield line after being scored upon.
SIXES-SPECIFIC RULES:
• Sixes is intended to be the fastest version of lacrosse. Therefore, the following rules apply:
o Upon a goal being scored, the goalie will retrieve the ball from the goal immediately resuming gameplay. Referees will ask the goalie to hold the ball for 1 second prior to blowing the whistle to resume play. No fast breaks.
o All shots that miss the nets are turnovers. There is no “closest to the ball” – the team on defense is awarded possession.
o The team on offense has a 30-second shot clock staring from the time possession is awarded. This includes when the goalie first possesses the ball after a goal. The scorekeepers table will audibly count down from 10 seconds.
• Sixes includes 5 field players + 1 goalie in play.
• 2 long poles will be allowed on the field at any given time. This is a variation from the world sixes rule. We do suggest that defensemen come to the league with short sticks as well as long poles for ultimate flexibility in play time.
• No body checking at any grade level. One-handed checks are allowed at the high-school level only.
• Goalies may cross the midfield line as long as one field player stays back. Failure to do so results in an offsides.
• No counts other than the goalie 4-second count
• All penalties will be 1-minute running time. A referee may add time to this based on the severity of the infraction.
• If a goal is scored with a penalty flag down: Goal counts. Player will not serve time on a technical foul but will on a personal foul.
